Best. Move. Ever.
I signed up on a whim. Well I guess technically it was not really a whim, it had been something I had been thinking about for a long time but just hadn’t had the time or money to do it. Then one day back in mid February I got this email from 3rd Ward (https://www.3rdward.com/) advertising the new class packs. I could sign up for a 9 week course for an introduction to woodworking pack…sold! For 9 weeks we met every Monday night 7pm-9pm and it was awesome. I never wanted to leave. I could have stayed there all night working on stuff. The class introduced us to various power tools and machines, like the lathe. And we were taught some basic skills and given projects that would help us practice what we had learned.
Maybe I am a huge dork, but when Monday rolled around I would get giddy. I couldn’t wait to get into that workshop. Everyone in the class was a beginner and our teacher Buck Jackson (yes that is his real name, I could not make that up) was amazing. He is talented, hilarious and very patient. Below are some pictures of the stuff we made.
This was our first project. Make a funky box to help fine tune our band saw skills.
This was just practice and was created using the lathe. A tool I am obsessed with!
This is the top we made on the lathe. It spins so it qualifies as a success!
One of our final projects was an end table. Everyone was given the same table to make. But I decided to go my own way with it.
As we were cutting the pieces the wheels in my head already began turning…
This was the table we were all supposed to make.
But this is the table I decided to make instead 🙂
There was also a mallet that we made using the lathe…but I didn’t have enough time to finish mine so I will have to post it later when it is done. I will also post a new picture of the table after I stain it. Yay!
